The Streets with Dan Hong

Born from a need to find fast, cheap ways to feed the masses, there’s something special about those authentic, urban dishes that evolved on the streets of every city in the world. It seems people can’t get enough of these quick-fire dishes packed with nostalgia. But we are only scratching the surface…

Beyond the shopping centre food halls, there’s literally a world of street food out there that people might not be so familiar with. Each with its own history and identity.

From Colombian Arepa to Indonesian Martabak to Canadian Poutine, The Streets with Dan Hong will follow Dan as he sets about unearthing these national icons, tracing them back to their routes and cooking them.

Accompanied by colourful and quirky animations, each recipe begins with Dan narrating an account of the origins and evolution of these iconic street food dishes.

Then back in his urban-style kitchen, Dan will go about re-creating an authentic version of the dish, the way it’s done on the Streets. No one brings to life the sheer pleasure of these iconic dishes quite like Dan. Viewers will be craving the comfort of his Korean Tteokbokki, the flaky texture of his Samosas and the big basil flavours of his Pad Krapow.

Once he’s nailed the authentic version, Dan then puts his own unique spin on these global classics. Dan’s version will be fresh and creative – and most of all he will always have the home cook firmly in mind. Ever tried Salt n Vinegar Churro with Crème Fraiche…it’s sublime!

Over the course of the series, Dan will hit all corners of the globe, shining a light on the dishes we all love to eat. Packed with great cooking tips along the way, this fast-moving series will take viewers on the ultimate culinary journey…let’s hit the streets!
